Hoshinoya Karuizawa, Food Selection

Refined Japanese cuisine & a variety of other choices

The main dining room at Hoshinoya Karuizawa is “Kasuke”, a refined Japanese restaurant. It sits next to Cultural Hall - the front desk and lobby lounge area of the resort. Kasuke features a huge open space and indoor terraced seating. You can enjoy a great view of the grounds and river through big windows at several levels. They serve high-level Japanese food and provide what appeared to be incredible 'one server-for-each-table' service.

“Sonmin Shokudo” is a casual restaurant located just a 10-minute-walk from the Hoshinoya village and next to Hoshinoya's public spa bath “Tonbo-no-yu.” They basically have set menu meals.

Another 5-minute-walk away is a small shopping mall called “Harunire Terrace.” It has a grocery store, a bakery, a general store, French, Italian, and Chinese restaurants, a soba noodle shop, and a few nice cafes. It’s a good place to enjoy shopping, eating, and people watching. We had dinner there at “CERCLE”. The meal was reasonably priced and delicious. But, sorry to say, my camera's battery ran out and so I can’t show you any photos.

One final option at Hoshinoya is room service. They accept orders around the clock (breakfast is only served 7:15-11:45 AM). It felt joyful and cozy having a tasty meal in our own relaxing living room, with the soothing sound of the river adding to the wonderful atmosphere.
