Ginneko, or Silver Cat, is an excellent yakitori restaurant located in the Furarito (Fraleet) Alley in downtown Asahikawa. This restaurant is located about a 15-minute walk from JR Asahikawa station. The restaurant is a traditional yakitori chicken restaurant with the local Asahikawa specialty of grilled shinkoyaki or "young chicken." The young chicken consists of a salt or tare (soy-sauce) grilled half chicken which is tender, delicious and a must-order. Other highlights include tebasaki (chicken wings), pork tongue, tsukune and grilled herb Pork. There are also grilled vegetables on the menu. An English menu is available and the atmosphere is friendly and authentic. As this is a drinking establishment, smoking is permitted, but this lends to the experience. The food comes quickly and the service is excellent. Prices are inexpensive and portions are filling and satisfying. Space is limited to counter seating and a few tables for groups. The clientele is jovial and welcoming.
