Shiretoko, located at the east end of Hokkaido and jutting into the Sea of Okhotsk, is a World Natural Heritage Site. It is also known as a habitat of brown bears, and white-tailed eagles that dive down to eat salmon that are swimming upstream to spawn in autumn.

We drove around Shiretoko for 3 days in early autumn. It rained a lot, but even so, the incredible nature of Shiretoko was ever-present and beautiful.
