Kamaishi Recovery Memorial Stadium

0 0 avis

Created specifically for the 2019 Rugby World Cup, Kamaishi Recovery Memorial Stadium’s construction was completed in 2018. The stadium was built as part of the post-disaster recovery and tribute to those who suffered in Kamaishi, Iwate, in the wake of the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake. Built upon the site of former elementary and junior high schools whose students managed to escape to higher ground during the tsunami, it is the only newly built facility of the twelve Rugby World Cup venues. With permanent capacity for six thousand spectators—during the Rugby World Cup an additional ten thousand seats will be added—this stadium represents Kamaishi’s close relationship with rugby as a part of its history and future, as well as a hope of ongoing recovery.
