Ono Castle Town is full of surprises. When I visited, I only expected to see the castle. Instead everything I saw in this town was new, and seemed to be welcoming tourists with open arms. Yui Station was no exception. It looked new, was well landscaped, and was crowded with tourists, which is a rare sight anywhere in Fukui! The station is kind of a hub station for tourists who visit Ono Castle. You can buy local specialties and souvenirs here, as well as enjoy making traditional crafts, playing around in the spacious ground, or just chilling out and relaxing. It's a good place to recharge before hiking up the hill to reach the castle on top of the mountain!

The painting of 'Meirin-kan', which was the public school owned by Ono Han (the name of this region). Sons of samurai families in Ono Han studied there.

The banner on the clock tower says, 'The 60th anniversary of Ono City Fire Corps.'

Retro fire truck. On the day I visited, an event was held to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Ono City Fire Corps.

Many red fire trucks were parked in the open space

Life-long Study Center 'Meirin', which was named after the Ono Han's school in the Edo Period. This is located across the street from Yui Station.

When I visited, a Bonsai exhibition was being held in Meirin Life-long Study Center

The final destination, Ono Castle, is on top of the hill, but you should explore Yui Station first before visiting the castle
